Oakland: Police activity in West Oakland apartment complex

OAKLAND — Police officers, including SWAT team members, were at a West Oakland apartment complex Thursday after reports of shots possibly fired within an apartment, authorities said.

Around 8:30 a.m., patrol officers initially responded to a report of a possible shooting at the complex in the 800 block of West Grand Avenue, with a possible suspect still inside.

After lengthy repeated verbal attempts to get a suspect to come outside, the department’s SWAT team was brought to the scene about 11 a.m. and traffic controls were established along West Grand between Market and Curtis streets.

Police were still trying to establish contact with a possible suspect  but as of 1:30 p.m., there was no one in custody, no initial reports of injuries and no confirmation that anyone was inside the apartment.
