Broncos Cutdown Tracker: Updates ahead of Tuesday’s roster deadline

The Broncos roster currently stands at 80 players, meaning general manager George Paton must make 27 roster moves before Tuesday’s 2 p.m. deadline to set an initial 53-man roster.

Following the cutdown, Paton and Co., will go about scanning the waiver wire for available options and also set their practice squad, which is generally made up of players they cut and clear waivers.

Here is our projected 53-man roster from Sunday’s print edition.

Check back here for updates over the next two days.

Monday 6:47 p.m.

A league source confirmed that the Broncos are waiving tight end Austin Fort, who caught a touchdown pass from Drew Lock against the Rams last Saturday.

Fort missed the 2019-20 seasons after tearing his ACL against Seattle in August 2019.

That should leave the team’s tight ends as Noah Fant, Eric Saubert, Albert Okwuegbunam and part-time tight end Andrew Beck.

Monday 6:40 p.m.

The Broncos are waiving rookie sixth-round receiver Seth Williams per a league source. Williams is the first member of this year’s draft class to be waived.

A league source confirmed that fullback Adam Prentice and receiver Kendall Hinton are being waived. Prentice’s release means the Broncos are sticking with Andrew Beck (as expected) as their fullback/tight end/special teams core player.

Monday, 6:14 p.m.

A league source confirmed that undrafted rookie inside linebacker Curtis Robinson is being waived. Robinson actually ran with the first team early in camp when injuries hit Josey Jewell and others, but was playing with the third-team defense on Saturday night. That leaves five ILBs left — Jewell and fellow starter Alexander Johnson, top back-ups Baron Browning and Justin Strnad and rookie Barrington Wade (who signed mid-camp).

Monday, 6:09 p.m.

A league source confirmed the Broncos are waiving center/guard Austin Schlottmann. I’m a little surprised by this because I viewed him as the team’s back-up center after rookie Quinn Meinerz’s struggles during camp at center, particularly as a snapper.

As it stands, if Lloyd Cushenberry gets hurt in-game, the Broncos could turn to starting right guard Graham Glasgow to slide over to center and then put Netane Muti in at right guard or put Meinerz at center.

Monday, 5:35 p.m.

Well, it took all day, but the Broncos are finally getting down to the business of informing players of their status.

According to a league source, they are waiving two undrafted free agents — Iowa tight end Shaun Beyer and Illinois State offensive tackle Drew Himmelman. Both players are candidates to join the practice squad if they clear waivers on Wednesday.

Confirmed by league sources, the team is also waiving cornerback Saivion Smith (who signed with the team after camp opened) and defensive lineman Isaiah Mack.
